FX Has the Movies
Site Launch
FX is one of the top national cable networks, boasting particularly strong demographics among younger audiences and movie-watchers. That’s why FX wanted to create a social hub that could transform broadcast premieres on their network into nationwide virtual viewing parties.
BLITZ partnered with FX to create the first-ever social viewing hub of its scope for a network. The flow of our hub was simple in concept: Tell your friend base that you're involved and they'll join in. We made this happen by creating a seamless single destination that united Facebook, Twitter and the entertainment content check-in app GetGlue. We then cross-ported the singular site experience across the web, Facebook and mobile devices with complete synchronicity.
Participants were rewarded with real prizes, the pride of virtual stickers and, of course, that staple of social networking: the brag. As the gamification of watching a movie creates a reward for "winning," the urgency to check in at any time during the movie creates the feeling of a special event and live-ness. Furthermore, the earlier users checked in to chase scarce rewards, the more status they gained amongst their networks.
We also engineered a broadcast-driven prizing model, where rewards are increased during the real-world broadcast to keep the game going throughout the entire event. We completed the rewards chain with a personalized rewards library, designed to make each user feel at home on the hub every time they received a reward.
We ultimately created an online experience that paralleled the real-world enjoyment and intimacy of watching a movie with friends and interacting with them about it. However, in addition, this experience is built to extend across one's entire social network, with the added component of fun and friendly competition.
