Wired NextFest
Interactive Kiosk Juegos
Being the 2006 Wired NextFest sponsor carries many responsibilities: Educating consumers about GE’s products while maintaining user interest, driving user interaction with digital kiosks, and being fun and informative for all ages. For this über-prestigious event, GE approached the BLITZ team to create enticing digital content, requesting that it emphasized the eco-efficient practices of their water, energy, aviation and healthcare divisions.
For each division we conceptualized, architected, designed, programmed, created original audio, and recorded voiceovers for interactive Flash games to be played within kiosks at the event. We built the games to run on custom hardware that used trackball navigation and planned for the most efficient optimization methods for porting the games online. Because the games would run on the kiosks continuously for several days straight, we customized the programming to ensure that memory leaks and system crashes would be prevented.
In the GE Water kiosk, players were taken on The World Tour Water Challenge where they had to provide clean water to three international cities suffering from water shortages with each game challenge representing a step in the water purification process. First, transport clean irrigation water to local farms, second, assemble a desalination plant to bring clean water to the local town for drinking, and third, purify the water before it was transported to the city for use.

“One of the neat things about this project was watching people interact with our work. Rarely in this business do you get to see people engaged in a project you’ve completed, or see and hear their reactions first-hand. Apparently, our games were big hits at NextFest!”
